ALT.NET Informal Open Space on progressive software development 18/4 2009
"Progressive software development to me is about three essential things: courage, integrity, and diversity. It's software development that isn't subservient to any particular vendor imperatives. It is concerned with the practice of software as a craft, and is constantly learning and teaching the craft. It's exploratory; it often knows today what the mainstream will know tomorrow, and is often instrumental in guiding the mainstream. It is simultaneously versed in methodology as well as being a counter-orthodoxy. Progressive software development understands the tomorrow's better ideas for software development are likely here with us today and seeks them out now, hoping to gain insight into them before they are re-interpreted through eventual mass adoption.
That's some stuff off the top of my head. I'm sure I can come up with something better given more time to sit down and focus on it."
